Fundamental changes in the US console space I've seen:
— Mat Piscatella (@MatPiscatella) February 27, 2024
- player count and hours played topped out in 2021
- play dominated by a small group of very established 'black hole' games
- new game releases carry more risk than ever, new IP even more so
- spend growth has flatlined
The console era where success was based on building the installed base and growing the software attach rate is long, long gone.

Friends, yelling at me on Twitter ain't gonna bring the dynamics of the 2008 console market back.

The faster yall move on the acceptance stage the happier we'll all be.
The mobile/tablet kids have grown up, and what they want is now mainstream.

Sorry to 33 year old Podcaster Rob, who fell in love with Modern Wafare or a Halo or whatever at 16 or thereabouts and wanted to hold on to that feeling forever.
Might want to shave, Rob. Got some gray.
