There were a few "problems" with Chrono Cross, which, according to many, didn't live up to the Original Chrono Trigger.
- The Story: The main story was not bad at all. It was actually very good and can hook anyone who play it. However, the connections between this game and the original was actually really poor. Chrono Trigger is around time travel, Chrono Cross is about paralel worlds. The contexts were so different that it is believed that it would be better for ChronoCross to not be linked to CT.
- The Character Roster: The good thing was you had a lot of charactes to choose from and enjoy their personal abilities in battle, and gathering all of them gave you access to the storybecause it was viewed from different perspectives. The problem was that they were too many and having/not having most of them didn't actually changed to course of events nor the story development. Their influence was minimal compared to Chrono Trigger characters.
- The Endings: How many of you were angry with the no-ending ending? (*raises hand*). The problem was that for a story so well written and the surprising plot..... None of the endings wasn't quite satisfactory, not even on New Game+. Supposely the real ending was when you defeat the final boss with the chrono cross....
I personally liked Chrono Cross (except the endings). but I would have preffered to be a different story with no connection to Chrono Trigger
