Arab-American activists in Iowa say they are focused on Gaza activism rather than upcoming vote
Days before the Republican caucuses in the US presidential race, Arab-American activists in Iowa tell Al Jazeera they are focusing their energy on Gaza activism.
The advocates say they will not back Biden in the 2024 race.
US protesters aim anger at Biden
Demonstrators in Washington, DC marching in solidarity with Gaza are expressing their dissatisfaction with the Biden administration over its handling of Israel’s war, calling for a ceasefire and an end to escalating US attacks in Yemen.
“There’s a lot of heckling going on against Joe Biden, they’re calling him ‘Genocide Joe’, they’re chanting ‘we will remember in November,'” Al Jazeera correspondent Kimberly Halkett reported from Washington, DC.
Anti-Netanyahu protests pick up steam
While anti-Netanyahu protests that had rocked Israel for months before the beginning of the war initially subsided after the attack on October 7, the unpopular leader has faced renewed calls to step down.
“This is the second week where there is expected to be large numbers. In fact, last week, an estimated 20,000 people attended this protest,” Al Jazeera correspondent Sara Khairat reported from a rally in Tel Aviv. “They’re calling for early elections, and they’ve also called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to quit.”
