Health Ministry: Almost 24,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza since October 7

At least 23,708 Palestinians have been killed and 60,005 wounded in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war, the Palestinian Health Ministry said. Some 151 Palestinians had been killed and 248 injured in the past 24 hours, the ministry added. About 7,000 others are missing under the rubble and presumed dead, but are not counted as part of the official death toll.

11 killed in Israeli bombardment on home in Deir el-Balah

Al Jazeera’s Ashraf Abu Amra reports that 11 people have been killed in an Israeli attack on the Fayyad family home in the Mashal’ah area, south of Deir el-Balah. The owner of the house, Bashir Fayyad, was killed along with his daughter and two sons. The home was hosting other displaced families. “The bodies reached the hospital in torn pieces,” Abu Amra said. “People were killed in tents set up near the house.”

Palestinians killed in Gaza City

Al Jazeera Arabic’s correspondent says an Israeli bombardment has targeted al-Sabra neighbourhood in Gaza City, resulting in a large number of people killed and wounded, with the civil defence saying its crews are unable to reach the casualties.

Another home in the southern city of Khan Younis was targeted, but it is unclear how many were killed or wounded.

At least 30 bodies taken to Khan Younis hospitals.

The bodies of 30 people killed in the latest wave of Israeli strikes in Gaza have been brought to hospitals in Khan Younis, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa. The reported toll comes as Israeli artillery fire continues to hit residences in the southern city.

Director of ambulance centre back in Gaza after release.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society says its colleague Awni Khattab, who was detained by Israel for 51 days, has been released and is back in the Gaza Strip. Khattab, the director of Khan Younis’s ambulance centre, was reunited with his family. At least six members of the PCRS continue to be held by Israel for the 22nd day in a row, PRCS said.

Israeli forces detained Awni Khattab at the Wadi Gaza checkpoint in Gaza on November 22 as he rode with a convoy of ambulances and UN buses evacuating wounded patients from Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital to hospitals in the south. Khattab’s whereabouts were unknown during his detention and the humanitarian organisation said in December they were “deeply worried” about him.

Number of journalists killed rises to 117: Gaza media office

“The number of journalists killed has risen to 117 since the start of the genocidal war on Gaza after the death of two fellow journalists, Fouad Abu Khammash and Muhammad al-Thalathini,” the office said in a statement.

Refugee camp raid leaves extensive destruction

Israeli forces caused widespread damage to the infrastructure of Nur Shams camp east of the occupied West Bank city of Tulkarem after a raid that lasted for about seven hours. The head of the emergency department in the Tulkarem municipality, Hakim Abu Safiya, told Wafa news agency that the camp was subjected to “a broader and more comprehensive attack”, which caused devastation to sanitation, water and electricity infrastructure.

Internet, telecom services cut across Gaza: Paltel

All internet and telecom services in Gaza have been cut as a result of the Israeli bombardment of the Palestinian territory, according to the main telecommunications operator. “We regret to announce that all telecom services in Gaza Strip have been lost due to the ongoing aggression. Gaza is blacked out again,” said Paltel in a post on X.

It’s the sixth blackout to occur since October 7.
