Seriously, why is everybody refusing to acknowledge the existence of 3DS in this thread?

You guys are acting like Nintendo sold ~13 million hardware/~100 million software last generation when in reality they sold ~90 million hardware/~500 million software.

Thats still a huge improvement for Switch but it makes no sense to ignore the device that accounted for ~80% of their hardware/software sales last generation.

I'm sorry but if you want to lump 3DS into the conversation then you also need to lump the PSP into the equation. Just like nintendo, Sony also made handhelds. And if you add the Sony handhelds then Sony can only be looked at as a failure.

PSP plus PS3 have a combined total close to 170 million. While the PSP Vita and PS4 have a combined total close to 130 million and resulted in Sony abandoning the handheld business.

I would class the PS4 as a success but it's also existed at the same time as Sonys biggest failure.

No, you’re comparing completely different things.

Nintendo combined their handheld and home console hardware into a single hybrid device so 3DS & Wii U both need to be factored in when discussing Switch’s performance compared to last generation.

The same thing cannot be said for PS4, it is only the successor to PS3 so PSP/Vita are irrelevant to the question being asked.
