Star Ocean The Second Story R

Final Update for the year. I beat 13 games this year. I played 7 JRPGs this year compared with 10 last year. But this year I played the ME trilogy, AC6 and World of Warcraft as major time sinks taken from JRPGs. I already have 5 JRPGs lined up for the beginning of 2024, so it will be a big one.

Persona 5 Tactica- This game has the Persona 5 characters return once again and some decent new characters. The enemies are very meh, and the battle system is interesting but overall not very inspiring. I didn't expect much from the previews and the game was pretty much as expected, meh overall. I hoped it would be a 3rd great entry in the persona 5 series, like Persona 5 and Strikers. Still it doesn't stain the Persona franchise in any way for me. I am extremely excited for Persona 3 remake, Persona 6 and Atlus's mysterious new game.

Star Ocean 2nd Story R- This game confirms Star Ocean as still one of my favorite JRPG franchises. This remake was masterfully done, even though I never played the original, I can tell it is quality. As usual the world is amazing and the story is full of twists and turns. You can make your own story by recruiting a maximum of 8 characters out of the 14 available characters and choosing the main character out of 2. I must admit the battle system is quite easy on regular difficulty, but it was fun enough at times. IC skills make a return with a complex system that can even boost your characters stats. The late game grind isn't too painful, though the true final boss is hidden behind some mumbo jumbo that I couldn't do on my first playthrough. It would be fun to do a 2nd playthrough, skipping anything repeated, but I have a busy schedule of JRPGs to get through.
