The 2016 Game of the Year is Doom and the runner up is Dark Souls III.
Turns out that the write-in game took the prize this year. The PC and PS4 versions only have a Metacritic score of 85. This isn't bad, but it usually doesn't put a game in the Game of the Year range. Looks like critics may have underrated Doom (2016).
