2017 was too much. I mostly played PSVR that year but took 'time out' for Horizon Zero Dawn, Super Mario Oddyssey and Breath of the Wild.

So many good games in VR, so fresh, experimental, spanning pretty much all genres. Highlights being Dirt Rally, Statik, Polybius, Star Trek Bridge Crew, Farpoint, Cavernous Wastes, Superhot VR, Arizona Sunshine, Mervils a VR Adventure, Dino Frontier, Moonshot Galaxy, Fantastic Contraption, The Solus Project, Doom VFR and Skyrim VR for 2017 releases.

Then at the end of the year GT Sport launched which became one of my most played games with over 15,000 competitive online races run with 1,310 victories. Including the best track of all time on which I have run over 6,000 laps split between the N24 and Nordschleife configuration and online 3,760 races.

Also great in VR!

So many great games in 2017, 3 made my top 50

#3 Horizon Zero Dawn, great exploration, fun combat, great story and lore.

#2 Resident Evil 7, Biohazard. Finally a game managed to be scary again and then some. What an incredible experience. I played it through 5 times and completed it on madhouse difficulty. Going for the hardest difficulty is something I had not done for decades.

RE7 in VR instantly made all horror games on TV obsolete. I never played RE7 on TV, never will. Same for RE8 and now currently playing RE4 on PSVR2. I'm glad I missed it when RE4 came out, taking it slow now (in the castle currently playing as Ashley) taking it all in.

All 3 are different in VR, RE7 is by far the most suspenseful and scary where you have to make every bullet count.

RE8 is the most immersive with amazingly done VR cut scenes and excellent implementation of HDR with great lighting. It feels the most real out of the three. RE4 delivers the action, mowing down waves of enemies in style and has the cleanest rendering. Capcom is my favorite atm :)

But it matters not how amazing everything was in the same year Breath of the Wild came out.

BotW was a true adventure from start to finish, 170 hour amazing journey (no fast travel) exploring the entire map.

Once in a lifetime experience like watching Spirited Away the first time.

This is Studio Ghibli meets Zelda, a dream come true.

#1 Breath of the Wild.
