it is... the same thing is happen to third parties in the wii, if you haven't seen top wii selling are nintendo.
i am yet to see a third party in the wii selling 3-5 millions+ from a new ip.

Full RPG's, Racing Simulations, First Person Shooters, God games, Point and click Adventure games, etc...  There are MANY kinds of games Nintendo can't possible make because of the lack of experience. They aren't a jack-of-all-trades. In Areas that Nintendo can't cover, third parties can take advantage. these areas are "equal" grounds, RPG's are one of them

Nintendo took advantage on the game genres they know because they know how to deliver.

The answer is very simple for why third party titles aren't selling that well.... Three words: development-marketing-hype. Once developers understand and adapt them properly, it will be successful. Wii is having the same path as the DS did. Really good games come later on during the system's lifecycle. We are just beginning to see it after almost two years.

About PS3:

The demographic is more predictable than the Wii's, this is why there are many good releases because they can know or get close to know what and how fans want from a game.  development-marketing-hype are way different on PS3 and Wii.
