Runoff, 2002, Game of the Year

Metroid Prime, for me. Not only a perfect transition into 3D for the beloved series, but a phenomenal action-adventure game dripping in atmosphere, surrounded by excellent music and sound design, and propped up with engaging, methodical gameplay focused on shooting and exploration.
