| ZenfoldorVGI said: Yeah, without a doubt the Wii is the defining gaming console of this generation, and everyone should own one just to see what the big fuss is all about. I mean, HD gamers obviously have extra money, and it only costs 250 bucks. Pretending there is absolutely nothing on the Wii that interests you, nor shall there ever be, is a talking point. The only people who won't own one in the end are bitter fanboys who hate Nintendo, the company, because of console sales in general. These people have convinced themselves that the reason they hate Nintendo is "the direction its taking gaming" or the less PC itteration, "It's for kids and n00bs." However, the real reason is much more basic. Anger, resentment, and biased, all bread from coveting what they Wii has, what they have to see everyday, popularity and monumental PS2 style sales. FYI, the Wii didn't steal anything from Sony, except top userbase. |
Hm, personally, it's not that nothing on the Wii interests me, it's just that I don't care enough to buy one. I love the Zelda franchise. I think it's one of the best franchises ever. But that game alone isn't enough to get me to buy a Wii. Sure, I could spend $300 on the Wii + game, but is it worth $300? Hell, even if I had 5 or 6 games that I wanted, I don't think it would be worth it. I've got PLENTY to play as it is, with just a PS3 (albiet, with backwards compatibility). Why add more to the "to play" pile when there's already plenty on it? Will I miss some great games? Hell yes. But that didn't bother me last generation, when I only had a Gamecube. And it won't bother me this generation, when I'll most likely only own a PS3. And for the record, until I bought a PS3 and a PSP, the only consoles I have ever owned since my NES have been Nintendo consoles.
EDIT: As for the whole entertaining guests argument, I find that games can be hit or miss, and the Wii isn't some godly gaming console that everyone enjoys. For example, my sister and her husband had a bbq yesterday for the 4th of July. I think the Wii was played for maybe 20 minutes, left idling for 20 minutes and then was turned off.
