the days when AAA games were made by a few 10s of people in an 18-month timespan or even less are long gone and it's not a Rare thing. If that should be how you measure studio quality today, then 100% of studios that existed in the 90s and still exist today should be only considered to have declined.

I can agree that it was easier to turn out games back than.  As great as Sea of Thieves is it isn't making or breaking the Xbox, without Rare, the N64 may have sold less than Gamecube and Nintendo might be third party right now if not for Rare keeping them going back than.  Without GoldenEye being the first major 1st person shooter on consoles to really take off, we might not have gotten the First Halo game when we got it, as there may not have been a lot of interest in the first person shooter experience at the time.

Isn't that Nintendo's issue though? Like it's a good thing that Xbox isn't totally dependent on a single studio isn't it? Having said that, I do agree that Sea of Thieves isn't making or breaking the Xbox but it is a significant IP for them. I think it's safe to assume it did great things for Game Pass. It's over 30m players and likely around 10-15m sales and is Xbox's most successful new IP by a huge margin, for a very long time.

It is also one of few franchises created in the Xbox One era which actually survived it and continued to provide Xbox revenue during that period and even in 2021 it was in Microsoft's Top 10 Game Franchises by Revenue which is impressive considering it released in 2018, has only free content updates and its competition is some of the biggest IPs of all time and titles which either recently released or released in that year.

Microsoft's Top Ten Game Franchises By Revenue (2021) Across All Platforms, Including Console

- Minecraft
- Forza
- Elder Scrolls
- Halo
- Fallout
- Sea of Thieves
- Doom
- Flight Simulator
- Deathloop

Anyway yeah, my main issue is when people call Rare dead and stuff, it is factually untrue, Lmao.
