the days when AAA games were made by a few 10s of people in an 18-month timespan or even less are long gone and it's not a Rare thing. If that should be how you measure studio quality today, then 100% of studios that existed in the 90s and still exist today should be only considered to have declined.

I can agree that it was easier to turn out games back than.  As great as Sea of Thieves is it isn't making or breaking the Xbox, without Rare, the N64 may have sold less than Gamecube and Nintendo might be third party right now if not for Rare keeping them going back than.  Without GoldenEye being the first major 1st person shooter on consoles to really take off, we might not have gotten the First Halo game when we got it, as there may not have been a lot of interest in the first person shooter experience at the time.

At least we can agree that Rare is added value to the Xbox brand whereas Nintendo would not have survived the 6th gen without Rare. One of the GOATS of Rare, Gregg Mayles whose been there since the early 90s is brought Sea of Thieves to the point it is today and took over development for Everwild, which Rare employees now tease that they're excited to show what they've been working on. So Rare still may have a lot more in the tank.

Last report is that Everwild is "optimistically" targeting a 2024 release.

GameCube definitely suffered without Rare. It will forever be one of the most painful "what if's" for what could have been if Rare was able to make the cancelled sequel to DK64.
