I honestly think split screen is a great feature and I don't think it should go away. I've had many great moments with friends and family that have come by and we had great bonding moments by playing splitscreen/co-op games.
It's great to have that option there cause I see a lot of value in it in bringing people closer. And you can have those moments without paying $300-500 for a system plus the subscription service plus buying the game itself just to play with a friend.
