maybe they can add console to the launch lol

Yeah, I think after Age of Empires IV on Xbox, they should try to do a Xbox/PC launch at the same time for Ara.

My highlights from the EC (European Commission) decision (256 pages).

This is PART 1, I'll try to have the rest during the weekend.

MS expects to reach (part) of the famous 3 billion consumers by 2030 (page 9)

Gaming is a highly dynamic industry, and the fastest growing portion of the media and entertainment sector. It is larger than pay-TV, home video (including streaming), cinema, music, books or newspapers & magazines. Today, 3 billion consumers around the world play games, a number that the Notifying Party expects to reach [REDACTED] by 2030. Gamers are able to access and play thousands of highly differentiated games on a variety of devices, including PCs, gaming consoles, and mobile devices.

I once stated MS is going for 200m+ game pass subscribers in the long term and got kind of laughed at lol. The thing is Gamepass subscribers should mainly grow gen over gen and not suffer from a hard reset like solely console gaming. I believe their plans got deeply disturbed (slowed down )by Covid especially when it comes to the production capacity and pricing of Series S for specific markets.

Mobile is also included in this goal though which doesn't have Game Pass attachment, things like Candy Crush alone have over 200m MAU.

Just had a 5 minute wait time on Xcloud because there were lots of people using the servers. If its that popular it makes a bit more sense why the CMA focused on it so much.

Or it's so small capacity that it gets server slammed easily

Microsoft admitted to the CMA that xCloud in UK only has a 5,000 concurrent user capacity and that is their 2nd strongest market...

Also interesting that Xbox is considering locking ABK behind Ultimate just like EA Play. Looks like Ultimate is definitely the way to go for most people.

This is being read wrong, Imo.

The context is specifically talking about Cloud Gaming and only Game Pass Ultimate offers that. I believe the EC is using Game Pass Ultimate interchangeably with xCloud because GPU is essentially xCloud and the only way to access it. The point being made is that Microsoft would have only released on Game Pass Ultimate and not other Cloud services.

With this information we can get a fairly accurate estimate on Xbox's monthly gamepass revenue. Xbox had 25m Gamepass subs the last time they announced numbers, probably more than that now but we will stick with 25m for now.

  • 70-80% of 25m is 17.5-20m subs on Gamepass Ultimate, at $15 per month currently is $263-300m per month. With the price of Ultimate soon increasing to $17 a month, that will go up to $298-340m per month from Gamepass Ultimate.
  • 20-30% of 25m is 5-7.5m subs on Gamepass Console or Gamepass PC. At $10 per month currently that is $50-75m per month. The price for Gamepass console will soon increase to $11 per month, but since there is no way to know the console/PC split on this price tier, we can't just say they will be making $55-82.5m per month soon, because PC people will still be paying $10 while console will be paying $11.
  • Combined, we are soon looking at at least $350m per month in revenue for Xbox after the price increase (However, it is worth noting that not everyone pays for Gamepass, some use Xbox Rewards points to pay for it. Others meanwhile stock up on discounted yearly cards and such instead of paying the monthly fee, so the actual revenue for Gamepass is likely lower than $350m per month or $4.2b per year)

Also interesting that Xbox is considering locking ABK behind Ultimate just like EA Play. Looks like Ultimate is definitely the way to go for most people.

Looks like another bad move to screw over console users for no reason, after we just saw their console revenue fall 13% for the year and now Series' sales are supposedly behind Xbox One launch aligned.

See above.
