Honestly this move just feels like a desperation attempt, due to the sharp decline in user count drop for OW2 (You can even tell this by the fact they are dropping OW2 on Steam first and have it as their top priority).

Also it says in the very tiny fine print, that the game still requires both a Battlenet account and the client itself, so really, having it on team just makes the game a glorified Battlenet launcher with an extra step (And I doubt Blizz is working with Valve to allow for all of Steam's features to work fully with Blizz's games, this just comes off like a Ubi dump catalog).

While it's a nice move, I feel like it's also a big half arsed one, primarily because they still require you to use both their account system and client, meaning they only ever want to siphon users from Steam, not sell and become involved with Steam's ecosystem.

Considering I own most of the games on Battlenet, I've no real reason to buy them on Steam, because there's just no incentive nor use for me to do so.

I also don't see OW2 picking up on Steam as much as Blizz (or rather Acti) thinks it will. People already know the state the game is in publicly, and charging £15 a pop for the DLC and have a cash shop with high priced cosmetics and a really shitty battlepass that still hasn't changed, isn't going to magically win millions of Steam users over (especially when said non battlenet users on Steam are going to be told they need to install yet another client and make yet another account and then have to use battlenet to launch said games like you have to for Ubisoft/R* games).

If it were up to me, I'd rather just have the games sold on the storefronts, no extra launchers or accounts required, but seeing as how battlenet is integrated into all of Blizz's games, that makes it insanely hard to make a new system and migrate decades worth of accounts and data onto.

Meh hard to tell. While I agree OW2 has been in decline, Activision did release Modern Warfare 2 on Steam from the gecko so if anything, it sounds more so like a natural progression. I am sure they plan on keeping OW2 around for a while so that and other active games moving to Steam makes sense. While Battle.net will likely still be required for a while even through Steam, I do think they are on their way to sunset it eventually.

There are lizard people in COD now?
