Like I don't see what is confusing about it, Xbox Live Gold is now being called Game Pass Core and it now has 25+ old titles instead of GWG...Is it exactly what you wanted? Clearly not, but still, Imo, at worst it's a minor upgrade to the current situation, it's the same price as Gold, it's more streamlined into Game Pass marketing and GWG which has been God awful for a long time is being replaced by a better offering.

Xbox Live Gold and PC Game Pass are already priced the same...This is Xbox Live Gold...With a different name and an upgrade to GWG...
