How in the know about this game are you? Change of subject question here, I have this and an expansion or 2 but every time I play it, it feels like the same thing each time. Start off, scout worlds, expand military. Try and get big enough so when the end game arrives it doesn't steam roll me in 5 seconds. Like the galactic parliament part seems next to useless and maybe I'm just not getting it.

In other 4X games there seems to be multiple win conditions, in this there seems to be 1, just be the biggest.

Nearly 800 hours of playtime, so pretty in the know. Not an expert though, I don't know the best min-max strategies or anything like that.

To me it's not even a game to win. I always turn off the end date so I can just continue until I choose to stop. Getting big doesn't necessarily make you stronger. Like, having more planets is better because the more planets you have the faster you grow pops, but as is usual with 4X games you're much better off with a bunch of highly specalised planets than just a lot of planets. In the current version vassals are still very powerful too, so a lot of the time you're better off having vassals with a bunch of planets than owning them yourself. It won't count against your empire size limit, so it won't increase research costs etc. but you can still get them to give you a % of the resources they produce. With the special vassal types they can potentially outproduce what you'd be able to on those planets too. Plus the special vassals sometimes have a building or something for a % boost for you as well, making them even better.

The galactic parliament can be powerful. It can also be completely ignored and you'll do fine without it. You can get a lot of little bonuses from it though, and they do add up. With some effort you could also get some major sanctions available too and use those to wreck your rivals. There's also the option of shifting it to a galactic empire with you as emperor. You could kind of compare that to a diplomatic victory in Civ maybe? I've done it and it's pretty satisfying. Kind of kills the game off though when you're that dominant and there's nobody left to oppose you however.
