I counter that by pointing out with how inconsistent SE is with their Xbox releases, how they can possibly hope to build up a playerbase if they don't release their games on the platform?

Many Xbox players wonder why should they even bother if they know they're not going to get the next game release? A game like Crisis Core in December was just a tool to get you to buy a PS5 to continue the story of the FFVII Remake trilogy.

The Divine Force was the first Star Ocean game to release on Xbox since 2009......how can they build up a playerbase with that kind of inconsistency?

Switch or even Nintendo consoles in general haven't been supported very well by Square with Star Ocean series for that same time frame as well tbh.

That's fair, but that is also one franchise. Square has been heavily supporting Nintendo. Pretty much most SE games that aren't called Final Fantasy or in this case, Star Ocean, has been ported to Switch. Granted, this reinvigorated partnership is pretty recent when Square completely abandoned Nintendo during the N64 era and onward.

Square did heavily support Nintendo during the DS/3DS era. But just during the Switch's lifetime, Square started their whole HD-2D endeavor exclusively with Nintendo with Octopath Traveler, and has led to several other timed exclusives.

So while Nintendo may not get mainline Final Fantasy games or Star Ocean, Nintendo's partnership with Square has grown dramatically and is arguably almost as strong as it was during the SNES era. Can't say the same for Xbox.
