Basically how I feel. I already said I wasn't 100% sold on buying a Series X just for Starfield, but I was practically at like 99% and with every bit of feedback inching closer to 100. But there's been too much faith lost to completely trust in anything I haven't actually seen in reality, so I'm being patient.

To be honest though, PC Gamer's weird hate crusade aside, I'm doubting myself backing Spade now, Lmao.

I think after that Direct, Starfield could edge out FF16...Still expecting high 80s - low 90s for FF16 though.

From what I've been hearing from FF16 demo impressions, this game is gonna be definitely gonna be one of the best FF games in a long time. Huge loss that Xbox isn't getting it.

This is my other great dilemma. The FF7R project while not what they originally sold it as (an actual remake), still has me extremely interested since the first game, while the only game on Xbox so far is Crisis Core without any promises for more.

Like others have stated FF16 will probably score baseline of 88-90, simply because it's a PS5 console exclusive (as far as we know) and was also designed to look and play just like every other PS exclusive; so unless the game releases half broken it won't even matter if the characters and story are completely forgettable, it already has an easy review floor.

But, if the game were to actually score much higher, or even if the player feedback for the game was much more impressive similar to Ghost of Tsushima, and it manages to actually put itself alongside Zelda as one of the best games of the year and generation, I may have to finally give it up to PS5. In that case I probably won't return to Xbox this gen unless they release a mid-gen upgrade, just as I had no intention of buying a PS5 unless they released a decent PS5 slim or pro bundle.

At least I'm interested enough in Starfield that I'm willing to still wait a couple months so it can one-up FF16, but I can only wait so long for Xbox. And if for some reason both games are disappointing or underwhelming, Persona 3 Reload is still releasing cross-gen in early 2024.
