Many people will be hesitant upgrading to AM5 for awhile, ditching their DDR4 Ram and starting over. - So this gives the platform some extra longevity and a good budget option. |
going from AM4 to AM5 doesn't make that much sense for most people because the 5800X3D is still really good. And DDR4 bandwidth isn't that much of an issue with 3D cache CPUs.
7800X3D is more for people that go for a really high refresh rate or that don't want to upgrade for a long time.
I really think releasing Zen3+ desktop CPUs with 3D cache wouldn't be bad business because of upgraders. 5800X3Ds are on top of all sales charts that I've seen. New system builders may go to Intel. I would go for AM5 because it may be AMD's platform for the entire DDR5 gen like AM4 was for DDR4.
EDIT: oh wait, ZEN3+ mobile processors are DDR5, I mean a ZEN3 DDR4 refresh.
