Since they are no air to air missiles which have to constantly exchange data with the targeting computer of the plane I would imagine that they can be pre programmed with a target and the plane is just a carrier which will fly them to the designated shooting position, release it and say goodbye. The only thing I am concerned about is that these range examples are measured from the frontlines where Russian air defence is strong. So the planes would have to release those missiles from a safe distance many miles behind the front lines, effectively reducing their range. As long as the pilots aren't absolute daredevils (which some of them admittedly are ) it will be hard to hit the Crimean bridge... but at least it is not impossible anymore. |
Definitely. Crimean bridge is off the table for now. If Ukraine reaches the Sea of Azov one day though, that bridge is fucked.
Their range is definitely going to be hampered by Ukrainians having to shoot them from a safe distance as you said. But should open up new targets to Ukraine still, a powerful warhead and another taboo broken, which I hope will push other countries to send their own long-range missiles.
