Following your maritime metaphors, Intel's iceberg (or better yet, a direct hit of a torpedo right below their waterline) only highlighted Intel's long-running problems and the bad decisions they had been taken for years.
What matters now is how will the first class passengers, the stockholders, react. So far they've showed patience, but sooner or later they'll run out of it, and who knows what they'll do then. Kill ARC? Replace Pat Gelsinger?
