He is completely right in what he said.  The Wii has had amazing sales and has increased the video gaming market.  For an increase to happen, people who would not normally be in the video game market have entered into it.

What proof is there that a majority of Wii owners have never owned a previous console?  Either there are still some 150 million PS2/Xbox owners left out there, or many of these last gen console owners are upgrading to a Wii.

Japan is a perfect example of this, I would find it very hard to believe that a majority of the Japanese Wii owners have never owned a previous console.

If your (and MS) assumptions are correct, there is going to be a massive explosion to the size of the video game market.  According to the data available, and assuming most Wii owners are new to the video game market, most of the last gen market will upgrade to the PS360 eventually.  This would suggest that the video game market is going to more than double from last gen, and this is very unlikely to happen.

 

There is proof that the video game market is expanding.  The yearly revenue from the games industry has skyrocketed in the last couple years.  If it isn't caused by the Wii then what because it is the only thing trully selling bewildering amounts of hardware.

And just for reference he never said that the majority are new console owners...just a lot.  So don't try and put your own little spin on it buckaroo.
