I'm interested in history. And a big part of classical history is mythology. Gods and goddesses and heroes and mythical beasts. Age of Mythology was made for me. The game follows the big three classical European/Mediterranean, fundamental civilisations. The ones that started all others; Greek, Egyptian and Norse. Though in reality the Norse would be a couple millennia younger, but there you have it, here they and their Gods can battle the others. They could have added a whole bunch of other great mythological civilisations, like Babylonians or Persians, or outside of the Mediterranean region Chinese or Aztec, but for the expansion they went with adding the mythological Atlanteans. I guess, it fits the name of the game. This expansion also added the end-game unit of the 'Titan'. A huge, enormously powerful unit. It is kind of a cop-out to use it, but it sure does put a smile on your face.

When I was a kid, I played things like Duck Hunt (#45), Star Wars Rebel Assault II (#40) or SimCity 2000 (#41). But then, we also ended up owning Wolfenstein 3D, the quintessential first person shooter. I don't know how, but I guess back then you just ended up with certain games because things came with other things. Obviously, with the game's nazi-imagery like swastikas and dictator Adolf Hitler himself, plus the fact that you shoot and kill people and even dogs, my parents weren't really keen on letting me play a game like this. But I was interested in it. Very much so. I was intrigued by the theme. So at some point they let me watch first. But this phase didn't last long, because watching isn't as fun as playing. At least I thought so then. So I whined. And finally, they let me play myself, because what harm could it actually do? It might also be a chance for an educational experience. In any case, harm, it certainly didn't do.
