Unlikely. Because in the video game industry, consumer view of your console tends to be forever tied to your first entry. For this reason, the 360 is still seen as a hardcore shooter console even though it has a greater diversity of games than the ps3.

If M$ had been the one to release the wii, it probably still won't have been seen as family friendly. Nintendo was able to pull it off because you have to remember that the nes was described as "family computer entertainment" or something like that.

Thus, the only way M$ can win is by winning >90% of the hardcore but this is unlikely because they'd have to buy nintendo's first party IPs, Sony's GT, and all major third party AAA series like FF, RE, etc

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
