They always have viewed Nintendo that way, Sony has never taken Nintendo seriously as a competitor, apparently even now after Switch kicked PS4's ass in less time on the market. Remember when former Sony Computer Entertainment of America President Jack Tretton called the Wii a kids "Lollipop" and the DS a "babysitting tool" compared to Sony's PS3 and PSP? 

Wii a kids lolipop? that's alot of Lolipop compared to Xbox 360 and PS3 ^_^ I think Jack Tretton wanted to Finish the WII off and make Nintendo 3rd party that quote was aggressive I liked the PS3 though .
