Alphabet Inc's Google has struck deals with at least 24 big app developers to stop them from competing with its Play Store, including an agreement to pay Activision Blizzard Inc about $360 million over three years, according to a court filing on Thursday.

The deal with Activision was announced in January 2020, soon after it told Google it was considering launching its own app store. Google around the same time was forecasting billions of dollars in lost app store sales if developers fled to alternative systems.

Epic's lawsuit alleged that Google knew signing with Activision "effectively ensured that (Activision) would abandon its plans to launch a competing app store, and Google intended this result." The agreement increases prices and lowers quality of service; the lawsuit added.

Interesting, if it's true.

Google paying Activision $360m over 3 years just to keep them from making their own app store.

Microsoft probably won't take that bribe, since they want their own app store on Android/iOS and that kind of money is chump change to Microsoft.

Yeah I was about to say, MS is such a substantially larger company than Google that if they ever approached MS on that kind of bribe, MS execs could easily respond with, "bitch, I'll pay you $360m right now to leave us the fuck alone"

This was probably Google execs when they saw the news that MS was buying ActiBlizz

Lol. We can see the chips falling into place in Microsoft slowly taking on Android/iOS, firstly with their support to Epic in regard to Fortnite on Android/iOS, then their cosying up to EU's statements on the matter and changing their own policies, now acquiring ABK which they will likely use their IPs as a weapon against Google/Apple.

Apple and Google are going to hate Microsoft if they break open their stores, it's fun to watch
