Monday news, the long part two:
Atari's 50th anniversary game is actually great
https://www.pcgamer.com/ataris-50th-anniversary-game-is-actually-great/
It's no big reveal that Atari is not really Atari anymore, and hasn't been since the mid-80s. The story of how this great name was passed from pillar-to-post over subsequent decades could be the subject of a book but, suffice to say, it seemed like it was being run into the ground at points.
The current owners, however, seem to understand and value what they have: in terms of the game catalogue at least, and understanding Atari's unique and important role in videogame history. The latest proof of this is Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, a lovingly curated and presented collection of key titles from the company's history that puts them in context.
Surprise! West of Loathing's developer made a new stick-figure RPG, and it's out now
https://www.pcgamer.com/surprise-west-of-loathings-developer-made-a-new-stick-figure-rpg-and-its-out-now/
It seems weird to work on something for five whole years and never breathe a word about it to anyone, but that's exactly what Asymmetric Publications has done. The developers of long-running online RPG The Kingdom of Loathing and singleplayer comedy western RPG West of Loathing have been writing, coding, drawing stick figures, and saying absolutely nothing about it for half a decade. No teasers, no press releases, not even a name.
Until today! Asymmetric's secret new game has a name: Shadows Over Loathing. And not only has it just been announced, but it's actually just been released. Shadows Over Loathing is out on Steam. You can play it right now. Surprise!

https://www.pcgamer.com/krafton-sets-its-sights-on-the-ascent-studio-neon-giant/
PUBG parent company Krafton is looking to add another studio to its stable: Neon Giant, developer of the excellent cyberpunk action-RPG The Ascent.
Word of the acquisition came by way of a bland statement in Krafton's Q3 financial report, which also revealed—in just about the most general sense possible—what the studio is up to for its next game.

https://www.pcgamer.com/diablo-4-dev-says-players-want-open-world-and-free-choice-but-they-also-want-to-be-told-where-to-go/
Diablo 4 will have an open world, but Blizzard hasn't been very clear about what exactly that means. In a new interview with IGN, game director Joe Shely and Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson went a bit deeper on what players can expect when they return to the world of Sanctuary.
The worst map in all of videogames is coming back
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-worst-map-in-all-of-videogames-is-coming-back/
You know when you think something is truly, unquestionably bad and are surprised to learn that it's actually pretty popular? For me that's Shipment, a Call of Duty map that I consider to be the worst FPS arena ever shipped for consumption. Activision announced this week the fan-favorite location is one of two new maps making its Modern Warfare 2 debut during Season 1.
PvPvE shooter Scavengers will shut down without ever leaving Early Access
https://www.pcgamer.com/pvpve-shooter-scavengers-will-shut-down-without-ever-leaving-early-access/
Battle Royale meets survival PvE shooter Scavengers is shutting down on December 16, 2022, just a year and seven months after launching. It was launched as an early access game on both Steam and the Epic store, and was pretty well-received at the time, but failed to find a persistent audience in the time since.
Obsidian's Pentiment has Steam and Game Pass pages ahead of launch this week
https://www.pcgamer.com/obsidians-pentiment-has-steam-and-game-pass-pages-ahead-of-launch-this-week/
Like a manuscript come to life, Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming Pentiment impressed us earlier this year when it debuted at the Xbox & Bethesda showcase in June. It's a historical mystery of sorts, where you go on a life-altering adventure as artist-in-training Andreas Maler through the Bavarian alps.
The profanity filter in Tactics Ogre Reborn is so strict you can't use one of the default names
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-profanity-filter-in-tactics-ogre-reborn-is-so-strict-you-cant-use-one-of-the-default-names/
Tactics Ogre Reborn, a remastered version of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, itself a remake of a strategy-RPG classic, assigns a default party name based on your character's date of birth. If your date of birth is between May 2 and May 25, that default name is Flamescale. As Twitter user Choojermelon points out, even though it's one of the names the game picks for you, trying to accept it results in the error message, "Text contains banned words. Please change your entry."
You can play Flight Simulator inside Flight Simulator now
https://www.pcgamer.com/you-can-play-flight-simulator-inside-flight-simulator-now/
Microsoft Flight Simulator's sprawling 40th Anniversary update has launched, bringing with it a load of new planes, airports, helicopters, and heliports, along with a suite of classic missions from previous Flight Simulator releases. It's a big update bringing several much-requested features to the latest entry in the beloved Flight Simulator franchise.
It also has a new easter egg: You can play Flight Simulator inside Flight Simulator now.
Microsoft Flight Simulator's 40th Anniversary Edition is full of hardware improvements
https://www.pcgamer.com/microsoft-flight-simulators-40th-anniversary-edition-is-full-of-hardware-improvements/
Microsoft is celebrating the release of the Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition, and with it the game is getting a huge update. Not only is there tonnes of new and improved content which includes new vehicles like a true-to-life Airbus A310 liner, but there's also some interesting fixes in the list. Sure, we could get excited about the inclusion of the Spruce Goose or the 24 new classic missions, but what we're really looking for is an even smoother flight sim experience.

NCSoft is gearing up to release its next MMO. Currently titled Project LLL, the South Korean developer is touting it as an open-world third-person shooter set to release in 2024.
Free Superman game ripped-off by supervillains and sold on Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/free-superman-game-ripped-off-by-supervillains-and-sold-on-steam/
As soon as Unreal Engine 5 became more widely available, developers began using the tools for cool proof-of-concept videos. Easily one of the best was made in April this year by developer Tyson Butler-Boschma of Toybox Games, a demo that showcased Superman flying through the city from Epic's The Matrix Awakens game.
This was a rework of an earlier demo that Butler-Boschma had thrown together and, this time, he decided to let people have some fun with it: the demo was released for free on itch.io. If you go and have a look, the video to promote the demo isn't working. It's been copyright claimed by Hero Game Studios.
Who dat? A bunch of true supervillains, apparently. Hero Game Studios released Heroes City Superman Edition on Steam November 1 and, you guessed it, this is a straight rip-off of Butler-Boschma's work that is selling for a price (£9.29/$10.99).
>> Supervillains is certainly not the word I'd use to describe them. Let's hope Steam realizes what's going on and shuts this down.
Please excuse my bad English.
