| Dante9 said: Whaaat, how does that happen? I have gone through Playstations 1-5 and never has a controller cell died on me. To be fair, I always use two controllers so that one is always charged up and ready to go, because sometimes I game for like 15 hours a day. But I haven't even noticed a shortening of the battery life, let alone complete failure. |
All batteries have a finite cycle.
Lithium-Ion Polymer or LiPO cells typically have a lifespan of about 5 years and 500-1000 charge cycles depending on use, battery quality, temperatures and more.
Playstation 1-2 typically did not have lithium cells, so I am not surprised they haven't died on you.
Early PS3 controllers are reaching 15 years of age and are failing.
Many PS4 controllers are the same.

It's not super super common like drift, but the older they get, the more likely it's going to occur, not a matter of "if" but literally "when". - Then they need to live a cabled life.
