If that was the case there was no need for constantly recruiting more convicts. It is rather that nobody really cares if they die. They are just staff working for a private company. The state has nothing to do with that and is not obligated to report numbers of fallen mercenaries or pay their bereaved. |
Would agree with this. We don't really know how much Wagner is suffering because Russia doesn't need to report on their deaths but the fact that they're constantly recruiting prisoners tells me either they're low on numbers or they're cowards which makes me think their abilities are overestimated. Prigozhin is complaining that Wagner is being relied on too much as well whilst being insufficiently resourced.
They are having some success around Bakhmut but they have been trying to take Bakhmut for months now and there are multiple videos of dead Russians around Bakhmut, I don't know whether they're prisoners or Wagners but all this effort to take one spot must be inflicting serious casualties and Ukraine is just taking them down through attrition and it isn't even a large group of Ukrainians.
