Well, you guys have already said it all: outside of the pricing of the 4090, which is relatively ok, the price of both 4080 cards is terrible. The 3070 was a $499 card while the 4080 12GB, which is the true successor of that GPU, is now $400 more. Insane.

And we have to remember that these are the prices for the Founders Edition cards. Third party models will be more expensive than that.

At least there are two things to be hopeful in the future:

1.- AMD doesn't follow Nvidia's insane pricing (at least for its non-flagship cards) and forces Nvidia to drop the prices.

2.- These aren't the "real" prices. They're there to scare us and eye the remaining stock of 3000 series as a valid option. That way they solve their stock inventory problems and, after it's normalized, they'll lower the prices to more reasonable levels.

But, if I'm honest, I don't have much faith in either of them.

AMD wouldn't dare, because if they did, it would be utter suicide for them to lose even more ground, and further piss off more mid to high end users, who will already be feeling the pinch from nvidia.

All both of them pricing higher will do is ostracise a lot of users into going lower end, which means less sales on their mid to high end range, and while that will eventually teach them a short term lesson, we'll still be feeling more of the burn over the long-term. I've been feeling that burn for 2 card gens in a row now, and I'm looking at another burn for this gen of cards, I'm the one basically getting nowhere, because Nvidia chose to completely price me out of their product range.

This is exactly why I always, always take a stab at Artists telling other artists around them to charge higher prices, and I'm there like "no, you don't know how the economy works, because if everyone priced high, then no one would be able to buy commissions, and then you'd be fucking over tons of potential customers, effectively pricing them out of the market".
