I don't know enough about the conflict between these two countries but my understanding on a little of it is that Russia has a peacekeeping force between them both and if Azerbaijan were to go to war with Armenia, then Russia would have to defend them? Armenia is part of CSTO so if Russia didn't defend them, it would basically make CSTO look useless.

Kazakhstan is a member too but with their recent comments towards Russia, I doubt they'd be rushing to help them. Seems like Azerbaijan has smelt blood in the water with Russia's weak military and decided to take an opportunity to attack...Russia should fuck off out of Ukraine and defend someone who actually needs them.

Haven't researched the original conflict enough but Azerbaijan is definitely in the wrong for attacking recognized territory of Armenia and if Russia wasn't being a twat in Ukraine, then this probably wouldn't be happening. If Azerbaijan does a full-scale attack on Armenia and Russia doesn't defend them then this will end CSTO and create another conflict, what a mess.

Hopefully a ceasefire happens.

It seems when there is war, Armenia always loses in the end.

This is really bad because Armenia relied on mostly Russia to keep their territory intact. When the US or other western countries wanted to intervene, it was completely blocked by Turkey and Russia, so even in the event that Russia would allow help to come from the west, the NATO member Turkey would not.
