I know CM Punk feels he’s a natural heel but also thinks he has to ride out being a baby face because of the “currency” he’s built up with the crowds from his career and returning after an extended absence.

In other words, and he’d hate to hear it (since I know he’s a Bret guy), but he’s like Shawn Michaels when he came back after half a decade. Like Shawn Michaels, he also has a faction of fans who will hate him no matter what, but a majority who like him no matter what.

This is kind of on brand for him though. That was what made him a star in WWE, being the voice of the voiceless, and speaking out against management. But, in the WWE, the management was, at least on screen, portrayed as the villains, and a lot of fans had a negative view ow management. A lot of fans were fans despite the WWE itself. So CM Punk was seen as a hero standing up against the corrupt management.

So, they wanted CM Punk, and they got him, for better or for worse. But, it comes off way different when he's the star of the company, especially when one of his key targets was a midcard guy who is struggling. And, Punk kept bringing the conversation back to this, regardless of whatever he was asked. It wasn't really a good look for Punk or anyone obviously, even taking everything we didn't see with a grain of salt. Punk was probably right on everything he said, but bad way to express it.

Meanwhile in the WWE Universe Braun Stowman is back. Which is probably good. Always a place for a large man who can work decently. Guess he's ok with HHH controlling his narrative. But, he kind of just buried the whole tag division. They were at least weakened from fighting each other, but, this really wasn't the best way to debut him IMO.
