Pokémon as an auto battler.
Auto chess, Dota Underlords and LoL teamfight Tactics all have similar gameplay. One thing they have in common is to collect three of the same unit in order to get an updated version to place on the battlefield. I think this would work nice with Pokémon who have a given upgrade to most units. Collect three Charmander - get a Charmeleon, collect three Charmeleon - gat a Charizard.
Instead of money, get pokéballs that is used to "buy" or rather catch new Pokémon for your team.
But most importantly, using the different Pokémon type as a way to get a deeper battle system. One where types have an edge over other types. Taking into consideration that an evolved Pokémon might have a different type than the unit one started with.
I love auto battlers and since Pokémon has branched out into the moba genre, I'm hopeful that they will create their own unique take on auto chess.
