Going for smaller and more advanced nodes has its perks, but also its cons.
One of AMD's slides talked about density and compared Zen4 to Alder Lake (click to open a bigger version):
With both Alder Lake and Zen4 using roughly the same power, but one being 50% smaller, heat density will be much higher and, therefore, run hotter.
