I can understand it for some genres like strategy games (I still remember the pic Pemalite posted of Civ V in his triple monitor setup) or racing games, for example, but I honestly don't see the appeal in a game like Spiderman.
But well, we all have different tastes and opinions, and I'm not one to judge what you think is the best way to experience that game. If it works for you, then great! I hope your kids enjoy it.
