And so what? Sales aren't everything. How much did it cost to make/market the game? How much of the money generated actually ends up as profit? More importantly, if you were going to actually try and buy one of the studios how much would it cost? Diversity is also important, say you're Microsoft, you've already got big western style RPGs with Bethesda, do you really need more? Getting something that would actually give you a presence in the Japanese market would make more impact, even if the sales are lower, since you'd be selling to new people rather than existing customers.

Well MS certainly could buy both if they wanted and regulators allowed. But talking real world constraints your point is perfect. Companies would make the ROI analysis of let's say the 2 option and see which would give the corporation as a whole the biggest bang per buck, and as you said the investment that is smaller, sell less, etc can have a bigger impact for their bottomline than the bigger one be it total or per dollar invested.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"
