https://www.pcgamer.com/fromsoft-ceo-hidetaka-miyazaki-to-receive-the-top-gong-from-japans-industry-body/
Japan's Computer and Entertainment Developer Conference (CEDEC) has announced Hidetaka Miyazaki as the recipient of its 'special award', basically the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award. Miyazaki joins a list of truly distinguished creators: the first recipient was Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, while others include Dragon Quest creator Yuji Hori, Namco founder Masaya Nakamura, 'father of the PlayStation' Ken Kutaragi, and Sega's arcade god Yu Suzuki.

Ukrainian studio Frogwares crowdfunds full-scale Sherlock Holmes remake and gets off to a flier
https://www.pcgamer.com/ukrainian-studio-frogwares-crowdfunds-full-scale-sherlock-holmes-remake-and-gets-off-to-a-flier/
Developer Frogwares recently announced that it would be going back to the future with its Sherlock Holmes games, and remaking its 2006 title Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened. This was one of the studio's first games, and is fondly remembered as the one where Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson take on a cult dedicated to Cthulhu.

The studio is part-funding the project through a newly launched Kickstarter, which is happily already well over 2/3rds of the way there. The Kickstarter campaign dishes up some extra details as well as the reveal trailer above.

I shot my nephew in this solo dev's love letter to Final Fantasy Tactics
https://www.pcgamer.com/i-shot-my-nephew-in-this-solo-devs-love-letter-to-final-fantasy-tactics/
If videogames have taught me one thing, it's that I am not a tactical man. I stumble from encounter to encounter, Leeroy Jenkins'ing my way through life without much in the way of forethought, and more often than not I end up punished for it. Such has been my experience with Vanaris Tactics, a new indie strategy game from lone developer Matheus Reis, which hit Steam earlier today.

Crypt of the Necrodancer studio stealth-reveals a sequel
https://www.pcgamer.com/crypt-of-the-necrodancer-studio-stealth-reveals-a-sequel/
The hit rhythm roguelikeCrypt of the Necrodancer got a major update in July—its first such update in five years. Today developer Brace Yourself Games went one step further with the launch of new DLC called Synchrony, and the surprise announcement of a brand-new game in the series.

No more Overwatch 2 betas, Blizzard confirms
https://www.pcgamer.com/no-more-overwatch-2-betas-blizzard-confirms/
In what will no doubt come as a disappointment to many Overwatch fans, Blizzard vice president Jon Spector has announced that there will be no more public betas for Overwatch 2 ahead of its launch in October.

15 years into development, Beyond Good and Evil 2 gets a new lead writer
https://www.pcgamer.com/15-years-into-development-beyond-good-and-evil-2-gets-a-new-lead-writer/
For many reasons, we included Beyond Good and Evil 2 in our list of ten games we can't believe are still technically in development. In fact, we led with it: That piggy in the picture at the top of the list is Pey'j, the mentor and adoptive uncle of lead character Jade.
There's a good reason for that choice. Beyond Good and Evil 2 was announced in 2008 and we've been doing "it's still happening" posts since at least 2014, yet all these years later it's still just a title and a bit of concept art: Ubisoft won't even commit to maybe—maybe!—having it out in 2024. Yet faint signs of life persist, most recently in the form of a new lead writer: Sarah Arellano, who announced the new gig on Twitter.
>> It has already surpassed the 14 years that Duke Nukem Forever took to launch, and I doubt the reception will be much different if it ever launches.

The Dead by Daylight dating sim has no business being this good
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-dead-by-daylight-dating-sim-has-no-business-being-this-good/
Hooked On You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim is a gift to all of the people who play Behaviour Interactive's game about horrific killers, but who also think they might deserve a kiss sometimes. Or all the time, as the staggering waterfall of Dead by Daylight fanart has so explicitly shown. Hooked On You, which is available today on Steam, plucks out four of its hottest villains and puts them on an island with you. Even as someone who hasn't played the popular multiplayer game it's based on (I've seen it played a lot though), it's still a surprisingly charming genre twist that didn't need to be this good.

One of the best roguelikes ever is getting a 3D remake with a rewind function
https://www.pcgamer.com/one-of-the-best-roguelikes-ever-is-getting-a-3d-remake-with-a-rewind-function/
Desktop Dungeons originally came out in 2011, and was a game I instantly fell in love with. (...)
So today is a good day, as the new boutique publisher Prismatika has announced Desktop Dungeons: Rewind: an isometric 3D remake of the IGF-winning 2D original. The new subtitle highlights the game's Rewind feature, which will allow players to (somewhat) cheat death with "an insurance policy that allows you to replay a dungeon from an earlier point, try different strategies and defeat monsters in new ways."

Vampire Survivors adds a bunch of OP cheat codes for the lulz
https://www.pcgamer.com/vampire-survivors-adds-a-bunch-of-op-cheat-codes-for-the-lulz/
The wonderfully OTT bullet hell extravaganza that is Vampire Survivors has received another free update and, as has been the case since its early access release, solo developer Poncle continues to over-deliver. I spoke to him back in March about the game's unexpected (but richly deserved) success, and one of the most refreshing things was his attitude towards game balance:
"I don't care for game balance that much. It's a singleplayer game," says Luca 'Poncle' Galante. "I'm more than happy for people just to go for what they have fun with."
This new patch certainly leans into that.(...)

And these are the GOG and Steam deals for the weekend:
