Xenoblade 3 will no doubt have it's say in the discussion for GOTY. It doesn't really matter if in the end it doesn't get the "ultimate award" because we know it doesn't need it to actually know how great a game it'll be.

The way we experience games is mostly a completely subjective experience. It goes to say the way we etiquette them with scores and awards is just as much.

Though, I do think Elden Ring could deserve the award just like other games could as well.

Still, I'd like to remind everyone how buggy and broken the game has been during it's launch period with some of it's subsequent patches adding new ones lol. Objectively speaking, the game certainly wouldn't win in the "most polished game" category which is an aspect that reviewer tend to overlook because of a positive game experience, while other times they don't.

So yeah, not every games receive fair judgement in those aspects

Not to take away from Xenoblade by no means, it is a must have for me, but it will not reach the amount of audience that Elden Ring has.  Just by shear numbers alone Elden Ring has a major advantage for GOTY.  Both will hold a special place for me and my shelf.
