Ever since his last video on the "buy now", I think Jay is digging his heels in at this point, instead of admitting that he's pushing for us to buy Nvidia now instead of letting them suffer the shit they gave us the past 2 years. I'm not exactly thrilled with Hardware Unboxed either. Ever since that Nvidia squabble they had, they've been relentlessly pushing AMD over Nvidia a lot of the way (yes they've given Nvidia some props, but the message feels personal from their end since that squabble). Again I'm going to just sit in the corner with GN and Tech Yes (though I do disagree with TY suggesting we buy used, when the market is currently being flooded with mining cards and his most recent vid had him testing to see what card was mined vs what wasn't, and not everyone is going to want to do that, so I believe his advice is moot). |
Yea he kept saying the prices won't go down anymore but even in the past 3 days, the prices have gone down. I think he forgets Pascal days when Nvidia had an influx of GPUs due to the mining crash and you could get a 1080 Ti for like $400 brand new.
And yea, Hardware Unboxed may as well rename themselves to AMDUnboxed. While their data is legit, their opinions are laughably bad when it comes to GPUs and even CPUs to an extent. Ray Tracing doesn't matter despite virtually every new AAA game getting it. DLSS doesn't matter despite it's overwhelming popularity. Even Sony is integrating DLSS into a lot of their new games while ignoring FSR or delaying the integration until after. They don't even talk about how Reflex is supported games allows half the input latency as Radeon. Oh and don't forget Nvenc encoder and such. And the funny thing is, the two games they enable Ray Tracing on, they enable it at the lowest setting so the difference between Nvidia and AMD doesn't seem as wide.
But yea, overall, it's best to see all the data and draw your own conclusions instead of listening to these youtubers. GN has so far did the best reviews when it comes to Nvidia and AMD GPUs. They showed the advantages that AMD has in Raster but they also showed the advantages that Nvidia has in Ray Tracing and DLSS. That's how you should do it.
