Its their first attempt at a business segment where Nvidia and ATI spent multiple decades in and their Geforce and Radeon lines are both over 20 years old. Also AMD didn't even enter the GPU market themselves they just bought ATI.

I would expect Intels current GPU design has lots of improvments that they are already aware of/working on but pretty much had to release a product at some point and they wanted to do that before the next round of competitor cards hit.

Hopefully you are right but with Raja taking the lead, I don't have much faith in long term.
