I'll be interested to see how Zen 4 X3D performs in gaming because from official numbers, the vanilla Zen 4 sounds like a huge disappointment so far, especially considering how much they are asking you to invest. If Zen 4X3D can match Raptor Lake and comes out shortly after Zen 4, then it might be a good idea to wait for it as then, it may be worth upgrading to instead of Vanilla Zen 4. But I personally won't be upgrading for a few years other than the GPU. |
True the investment in Zen 4 is quite high, I'm guessing its why they're planning to keep AM4 alive for some time even after AM5 is out. Curious to see if fast clocks and DDR5 among other improvements grants you big benefits in over Zen 3 X3D. They have to be faster than Alderlake though with those big clocks and some IPC gains, and with 3D stacked cache. Will be a interesting fight to see next year.. there are already engineering samples out in the wild for i9 13900K in China; that brings in an alleged 20% uplift over ADL in games and apps.
Yeah probably a good idea to wait (esp. for people interesting in gaming uplift) because since DDR5 is gaining momentum and is gradually getting cheaper and better for the money. And you ride out the first wave of motherboards.
And same, current Zen 3's are still fast as heck and honestly doesn't seem to be worth the upgrade just yet. And can't see them being a bottleneck any time soon.
