Thursday news, part two:
Monster Hunter Rise's latest update is great even if you don't own Sunbreak
https://www.pcgamer.com/monster-hunter-rises-latest-update-is-great-even-if-you-dont-own-sunbreak/
Sunbreak, the first expansion for Monster Hunter Rise, is nearly upon us. Capcom has released a pretty mighty patch in preparation that's worth your time even if you don't plan on picking up the expansion anytime soon.
There are a ton of nifty quality-of-life features, adjustments and new additions to the base game. There's now more space in the item box, equipment box, decoration box and layered armor box along with your furry friends' equipment and layered armor box. It should be easier to navigate each box and its loadouts too.
Xbox Game Studios boss says there's no more crunching at Bethesda
https://www.pcgamer.com/xbox-game-studios-boss-says-theres-no-more-crunching-at-bethesda/
Allegations surfaced earlier this month that the development of Fallout 76 was plagued by, among other things, a heavy reliance on crunch. One source described it as "voluntold overtime," because employees were told that if nobody volunteered to come in to work over a weekend, the entire dev team would be called in. Bethesda's acquisition by Microsoft a couple years later reportedly hadn't changed the situation much, as sources said the new ownership was largely taking a hands-off approach to the studio.
In a recent all-hands meeting reported on by Kotaku, however, Xbox Game Studios chief Matt Booty said he's "confident" the situation has changed, and that Bethesda and its parent company ZeniMax Media are no longer crunching as part of their regular process. He also made a point of noting that crunch wasn't a problem with Bethesda specifically, but just the way things were done across the industry as a whole.
>> I hope it's true.
Halo Infinite's desync problem is on hold because developers are busy with other things
https://www.pcgamer.com/halo-infinites-desync-problem-is-on-hold-because-developers-are-busy-with-other-things/
Desync, simply put, is when an online game server and client don't agree on a player's location: The client says a player is here, but the server says they're actually over there. As you can imagine, it's a real problem when you're trying to put bullets or blades into someone, and it's been an issue in Halo Infiinite since before the game released.
"Players have found cases where you can permanently desync the client from the server," 343 Industries wrote in a February blog post, referencing a December 2021 thread on Reddit.
(...)
343 said at the time that it had identified multiple situations in which Halo Infinite players could become permanently desynced, and expected to have a fix "deployed in upcoming builds." But the problem has persisted, and it sounds like it's going to be around for awhile yet, as developers' hands are currently full with other things.
>> That's what happens when there are too many problems to take care of.
Wild West Dynasty looks like any other survival game until it turns into a city builder

There's a lot going on in Wild West Dynasty: roleplaying, survival, life simulation, resource management, and city building, according to the game's Steam page. You can see a bit of that (or a bit of some of that, anyway) in the first gameplay trailer above, which includes a cowboy shooting a boar before exploring a mine shaft, chopping down a tree, hitting a rock with a pickaxe, and then building a house.
Monkey Island creator says he's done sharing the new game after 'personal attack comments'

The legendary LucasArts adventure series Monkey Island returns later this year with the appropriately-named Return to Monkey Island. The announcement was a huge and welcome surprise, with the game being developed by Gilbert's Terrible Toybox studio in collaboration with Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games.
Since the game was announced, Gilbert's had a spiky moment or two, and got especially annoyed about criticisms of the game's new art style: "It's ironic that the people who don't want me to make the game I want to make are some of the hard core Monkey Island fans. And that is what makes me sad about all the comments.
Stranger of Paradise announces first DLC with a rickroll

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is here to kill even more chaos, with its first expansion set to arrive in July.
The teaser trailer for Trials of the Dragon King—which for some wild reason was briefly a rickroll on the game's official site—doesn't show much, but it gives a pretty good glimpse at two iconic figures from across Final Fantasy's history. As the expansion's title suggests, Bahamut seems to be the primary focus of this DLC. He's one of the series' most recognisable summons, being around since the very first game.
