Battlefield 2042's first content update was delayed while DICE methodically fixed bugs and added features like VOIP to the 128-player shooter, which hasn't turned around its icy reception yet, but not for lack of trying. That work is ongoing—big map redesigns are still to come—but videogame seasons can't be held back forever. Season one of Battlefield 2042, called Zero Hour, starts this Thursday, June 9.

One of the things you'll notice a few hours into playing Diablo Immortal is that everything takes a long time. It's designed that way: Diablo Immortal is a free to play mobile action RPG that borrows a lot of MMO mechanics to keep you playing regularly. The PC version, while still in beta, is not substantially different. Once you hit level 35, the game halts your leveling progress and forces you to engage with its battle pass and daily challenge systems to progress. While there's nothing in the game to let you skip the sudden grind to the game's level cap, there are already many websites popping up that will help you out.

It's been less than a week since Diablo Immortal launched on mobile devices and PC (in open beta), and the game is already facing a furious backlash from players over its in-game purchases. Numerous threads criticizing the monetization have appeared in the Diablo Immortal subreddit, while the iOS version languishes with an abysmal 0.6 score across nearly 1,700 user reviews on Metacritic.

But, well, maybe things do change? With the big week for announcements upon us—E3 is technically off, but the next few days will still see the Summer Game Fest, PC Gaming Show, Future Games Show, the Xbox/ – Bethesda Showcase, Wholesome Direct, and more—we have yet to see any major surprises blown.
