Not knocking it, I like the PS5 and enjoy playing on it. Its just the games aren't quite there for me yet. Ofc its understandable since the pandemic really threw a spanner in the works for Sony and the games industry but the games barely feel like they've barely moved. And since.. it feels like a PS4.5 for me so far. The one lasting game that left an impression on me was Elden Ring.. and that's a third party game that can be played basically on any current gaming platform/s; well, apart from the Switch.

Ofc its still early in the generation.. Maybe once we get a fully fledged new Final Fantasy, God of War, Suckerpunches and exclusive ND game that might change my look in it lol.

so you're saying that only exclusives matter? because I hate to break it to you, but basically since the beginning of the medium, new generations cross-released a lot of stuff. This idea that stuff like Ghost of Tsushima or Horizon Forbidden West or Spiderman Miles morales 'don't count' becuase they are cross generational is just silly, ESPECIALLY when you consider the way this generation (for both PS5 and XSX) has handled that sort of thing. MOST games that are cross generational have little to no upgrade fee, you just download it and can play the newer version once you get the new console. Sure, PS5 does require you to pay a nominal fee for the upgrade, which isn't ideal, but it's better than having to pay for a whole new game like you would have in prior generations. 

The backwards compatibility and the cross-generational options are part of why I love this generation so much. In the first year of the PS5 alone I had something ludicrous like 30 games on my system, and while almost all of them were just PS4 games with a coat of polish and 60 FPS, that's still really awesome to me. 

So I stand by my statement: The PS5 is everything the PS4 can do but more and better. And that's not a dig against the PS4, but when it comes to thinking about 'which one is your favourite', it's hard to not see the PS5 as an objective improvement. Does it have, on its own, the longevity and impact of the PS4? Way too early too tell, but it's absolutely reasonable to say that I (and apparently many others) like it better for those reasons. 

Plus there's the controller functions, which matter. 

before the PS5 came out the PS4 was my favourite PS console. but within just a few months that shifted. The PS5 is basically a PS4 with better performance, a better controller, and even more games as well as virtually every Ps4 game. It can do virtually everything the PS4 can but can do it better and can do more. You're free to say that none of that 'counts' but that seems rather silly to me. Seems like you're just trying to enforce arbitrary rules on the system because of recency bias. 

I just said that the experience of using a new console and stuff.. IMO there isn't much new games that aren't cross gen or that all spectacular, just yet. At least from first party. Not saying not an improvement.. ofc with new technologies we'd expect that. I tend to think of games first when judging a console not the hardware or experiences with the same games on last generation consoles.. different strokes and all that.

Nah the recency bias thing.. well hmm you could say the same about current gen consoles since most people are playing those now. I'm looking at it from a pure game release POV. Call it whatever you want. But anyway this is going nowhere so lets agree to disagree before this derails further..
