What was said, and meant, was that if Sony could just compete with COD, and maybe 1 other big new XB franchise, that the rest of those new XB franchises would be in trouble and would suffer. Not because everyone plays COD or would run to PS5, but because MS needs more specific games, with massive audiences, that make huge profits, in order for Game Pass to work. Sony wouldn't have to compete with everything, just a few. They wouldn't require franchise killers either, just worthy competition. If anyone could do it, Sony and it's growing studio's and partnerships are at the top of that list. Will they though? Who knows? Possibilities, possibilities. |
Lots of people sleeping on Bungie. Aside from Call of Duty and Minecraft, what other multiplayer franchise from Microsoft currently has more pull than Destiny, a new IP from the last decade that has over 187M players, probably closing in on 200M now. Halo Infinite? Doom Eternal? Forza Horizon 5? World of Warcraft? Publishers strive to have their GaaS titles retain players like Destiny 2 has for years. Sony could very well have the next big multiplayer just because they own Bungie.
