What better way to motivate a wavering arm then to say the enemy went attacked our country. Might be a last ditch effort to motivate some soldiers to stay inline. Might also be a way to scare local people into thinking the threat is real and not propaganda.

They could have attacked a civilian structure for that though, like, false flagging an oil facility which is critical for the war efforts seems like shooting yourself in the foot for little gain, doesn't appear like there's enough of a reluctance for war in Russia to affect Putin thus far, it also has the chance to do the opposite in that, a lot of those who support war, do so because they believe they are safe, it doesn't affect them - Until it does, take those Russians reacting it for example, their main concern seems to be how Ukraine even got into the country and exposing the lies of Russia saying Ukraine military is being easily defeated, it could make supporters of an invading force more fearful.

See I think differently, it is the perfect target. Just destroy enough but not all. They can spin it as Nazis trying to disrupt Russia's liberation of Ukraine.

I guess we will find out soon enough from Ukraine if they hit it or not. Personally I hope they did do it then it will make Putin think some more and reconsider the mission, hopefully not panic and do something stupid.
