first and foremost congrats our little girl is going on 7 months now and it is the best thing that has every happened in my life
but here is the heads up no one ever gave me
1--be ready to change diapers and not just the babies when you wife gives natural birth as in threw the you know what she will bleed for a few days, and the hospital will put her in these adult diapers that need some tlc to prepare, think of super maxi pads that you need to put crème and powders on to help keep her healing (you don’t have to prepare these but I didn’t want my wife to have to do to much work b/c if you don’t she has two)
2—you will probably cry ( I did) and there is nothing wrong with that, the moment you see her you will be a bubbling little girl with emotion, if you aren’t then maybe your not ready to be a papa
3-the first poop like stuff, I think its spelled me·co·ni·um—it’s the first waste your baby will produce, its like tar and will stick to her little bum as if you had glued it on there, also the hospital will not let you take here until they have see a peepee diaper, this is to make sure the kidneys are working fine
4—despite what the breast feeding coach says don’t worry about giving your babies a fooler or pacifier, they will give you some big speal about how the babie might not bond to the mom and wont feed right, my little girl quickly learned that if she wants food a fooler will not provide it
5----don’t say it to your wife, but it stinks…..the whole birthing process is not only a treat for the eyes it’s a big stinky mess, it smells close to rotting melon kinda swee but not very plesent
6—you will see the ugly side of your wife, she will be stressed, tired and hungry…and no matter what remember that this is not a day for you you will have to be willing to take a back seat and just watch or you will be in trouble
7-stay out from under foot or you will piss off your nurses, they don’t mind you offer a helping hand but they tend to know more about the situation then you do and keep that in mind
8—don’t expect to see the doctor like you do in tv, he will be in and out a couple of times and the rest will be up to the nurses—in fact we saw our doc three times, when we checked in, when he came 22 hours later to see if he would need to c-section- and finally an hour later to get the deliver the baby
9—the cord feel like rubber but don’t worry it wont hurt the baby or the mom
10—after birth is really gross and its really painful to get out b/c they have to do this special massage to make sure the stuff comes out, I know you will want to run right over to the babie but make sure its quick and be right back to your wife b/c she will still need your support to get the rest done
I think that about wraps it up, the rest will get covered in child birth class, if this is your first then I recommend going, if not then you already know this list
