Mercenaries are, in general, a bad idea right from the start.
Remember the Russian attack of a military compound near the Polish border a few days ago?
The compound was full with British mercenaries that had no better idea than using their cell phones to phone home their "adventures of the day". All the Russians did was pick up the calls and send a bunch of cruise missiles to the origin of the calls. After that, the survivors ran home as fast as they could.
This is what happens when you hire people with good intent but no strict military discipline and experience. While it sounds good that Ukrania has called for volunteers, the results are, unfortunately, pretty destructive. Recent reports tell of mass exoduses of those foreign fighters (it didn't help either that the contracts they had to sign were "slightly" one-sided)..
